Richard House is a 68-bed care home that was developed with residents in mind. Boasting a range of facilities including ensuite wet-rooms, communal dining rooms and lounges, games room, hairdressers, wellbeing room, cinema, and tearoom.

The home provides 24/7 personalised care, as part of our community, residents will be able to continue with their daily routines whilst having the day-to-day needs looked after. Our kitchen team provide nutritious meals and fine dining, if you have any specialist dietary requirements our team can prepare and provide this.

Our Care

Respite Care

‘Short term' care for residents, who are usually looked after by a relative or professional carer in their own home and whose carers are either unavailable or need a break for a limited amount of time. It is also suited to those people recently released from hospital and who need an extended recovery period under supervision at Richard House. Respite care often starts as a temporary stay for a resident in order to decide if Richard House is the right long-term option for them. Following this, the resident, their family and our team will have a collective discussion about the next steps.

Residential Care

Residential care is for residents who need basic levels of support, without nursing or specialist care needs. It may include bathroom assistance, and help with other activities of basic daily living. It is most suitable for those whose needs are greater than home-based carers are able to cover.

Dementia Care

For many of our staff at Richard House, dementia care is a form of care that they are most passionate about. Via high levels of training and qualification, daily interactions, activities and compassion, we learn about every resident’s individual needs - helping them feel settled and safe. This approach ensures that residents with dementia receive bespoke care plans based on their subjective requirements and preferences.

Day Care

Many prospective residents are not ready to take the full-time step into a care home and do not want to stay overnight. All go through our individual evaluation process, which can conclude that day care may be the best solution, at least initially. As a carer looking after a loved one at home, you may still require some support - and your loved one may benefit from social interaction with peers. Richard House can provide all of this.

Palliative Care

Our team at Richard House are highly trained in the unique skill sets needed to provide sensitive and expert palliative care, with empathy and understanding at its core. At such a difficult time, we'll help you navigate the decision-making process step-by-step, and support you and your loved one with the most comfortable end-of-life care possible.

Nursing Care

Nursing care provides 24/7 medical and personal support tailored to individuals with complex health needs. Unlike residential care, which focuses on providing a safe and supportive environment for daily living, nursing care involves specialised attention from trained nurses. This ensures the management of chronic illnesses, post-surgical care, or complex medical conditions. It bridges personal care with clinical expertise, ensuring that residents have access to essential medical interventions and comprehensive support for their physical and emotional well-being.

LifeLibrary

The life story app that enables genuine, person-centred care to those in residential care

LifeLibrary is an easy-to-use app that allows carers and families to build a digital memory book for each resident. This shared resource helps carers provide personalised care, strengthens communication, and creates opportunities for meaningful engagement and activities.

For families, LifeLibrary provides a valuable connection to their loved ones, offering a window into their daily lives at the care home. By contributing photos, stories, and updates, families become active participants in their loved one’s care journey, fostering a sense of closeness and peace of mind.

A message from our CEO

Following the recent inspection by the Care Quality Commission (CQC), our home was rated as Requires Improvement.

Whilst we are naturally disappointed with this outcome, we fully recognise and accept the findings within the report. The wellbeing, safety and quality of care provided to our residents remains our highest priority, and we have already implemented a comprehensive action plan to address the areas identified.

The home is receiving enhanced support from senior leaders across the organisation, with regular oversight, additional quality assurance measures, and ongoing monitoring to ensure sustained improvements are delivered. We are working closely with our team members, residents, relatives and external partners to ensure that the actions we take result in meaningful and lasting improvements.

We would like to reassure residents, relatives and stakeholders that we remain fully focused on providing safe, compassionate and high-quality care. Progress against our action plan is being reviewed regularly, and we are confident that the improvements being made will have a positive impact on the experience of those who live and work within our home. Our first step is to appoint a new home manager, Andi Barker, whose extensive background in care will bring fresh leadership, renewed energy and a steadfast commitment to the high standards that our residents and their families deserve.
