Richard House Care Home residents received a very special visit from Chelsea Pensioner Roy Palmer and his partner Sandra.
From 1692-1955 all army pensions were paid by the Royal Chelsea Hospital, explaining where the name Chelsea Pensioner arose from.
Over time our iconic veterans who have retired and now live within the Royal Hospital are officially known as Chelsea Pensioners. Over 300 army veterans live at the Royal Hospital today receiving excellent accommodation, comradeship, and the highest standard of care in recognition of their service to our nation.
Residents at Richard House were honoured to meet Roy who spent the afternoon chatting and reminiscing. Chelsea Pensioner Roy Palmer has recently become the first Herald, previously being the town crier in Lincolnshire announcing weddings and other celebrations, Roy was keen to fulfil a similar role in his new home.
The residents and team members loved having Roy and Sandra in to visit them and look forward to future visits.
Richard House would like to thank and express our gratitude to all Army Veterans, Active Military, and their families for all they have sacrificed for our nation.
Richard House provides residential and dementia care. The home has been designed with residents in mind and provides fantastic facilities. Including a wellness room, games room, garden room, cinema, hairdressing and nail salon and tearoom.
